Gull Fest

Dungeness - 1000hrs - cold, sunny, w2 - First heavy ground frost of the winter, enough to ice over the garden pond. The beach fisherman were out in force at the Point this morning, probably as a result of a 17 pound cod landed recently. Offshore about 100 Great Crested Grebes with a scattering of Guillemots, Red-throated Divers and Kittiwakes. On the beach two large groups of loafing gulls produced 2nd winter Med and Glaucous Gulls, an adult Yellow-legged Gull and a 1st winter Caspian, plus another one in a separate flock by the Pilot.
Littlestone Golf Course - 1500hrs - On such a stunning afternoon couldn`t resist another look at the Short-eared Owls before the weather changes tomorrow. Three owls were on show, one of which came close to the sea wall. Didn`t see the Snow Buntings but they were reported earlier in the day.
Elsewhere around Dungeness, a couple of Siberian Chiffchaffs were present in the Trapping Area, plus Long-tailed Duck, Slavonian Grebe and Great White Egret on the bird reserve
