Lade Desert

Lade - 1100hrs - cool and windy, sw 5 - A quiet day and a late start after dealing with guests. Anyhow, eventually we got out and decided to work the desert down to Kerton Road and out towards Mockmill. In a brisk wind I wasn`t expecting much, but still managed to find a few pairs of breeding Whitethroats, Linnets, Skylarks and Mipits on the storm beach ridges. Masses of young Starlings and House Sparrows continued to plunder emerging insects on the turf and a Hobby zipped through. On the gravel pits more Black-headed Gull chicks have hatched and a pair of Shoveler were new in.
Elsewhere across the site Cuckoos were still active (but for how much longer I wonder) and 50 or so Swifts were hawking low over north lake in the cool conditions.
