Privet Hawk-moth

Lade - 0700hrs - mild, cloudy, drizzle, sw 2 - A circuit of the local patch produced little of note apart from a flock of 50 odd Swifts over north lake. Juvenile waterfowl seem to be everywhere at the moment with one Mallard brood of 13 ducklings still all present and correct after a fortnight. The first Whitethroat and Reed Warbler juvs were out of the nest this morning.
In the garden moth trap a spectacular Privet Hawk-moth was the only newcomer for the year.

ARC - A couple of scans at the southern end of the pit from the causeway road this afternoon failed to relocate this mornings Glossy Ibis, although it was present during the evening (TH) alongside a Little Gull. From Screen and Hanson hides very little apart from a flock of 30 Pochard and the usual Swifts, hirundines, Common Terns and a Cuckoo by Tower Pits.
