First Pintails

Lade - 0600hrs - muggy, overcast, light airs - 24 species in the garden moth trap this morning including Dwarf Cream Wave and Common Footman new for the year, plus 4 White Spots, 2 White-points and an Eyed Hawk-moth the other highlights.

                                Black Redstart, Dungeness

                                Eyed Hawk-moth, Lade

Dungeness - A sea mist rolled in keeping the temperature down for a couple of hours while along the power station wall a lone Black Redstart was still in song. At the Patch 3 Med Gulls on the beach amongst a few Bhgulls, Common and Sandwich Terns being stalked by a bronzed PB fresh back from his adventures in Asia Minor.
Kerton Road CafĂ© - Called in to assist with the moth traps where 38 species of macros recorded. Short-cloaked Moth was probably the best of the catch, as it`s something we don`t get very often down here. Similarly, a Spruce Carpet from yesterday, although much more of a teaser to identify (at least for me). BB joined the party with a smart Purple Bar and an unusually marked minor for the Moth Lord to adjudicate on.
ARC - 1600hrs - From Screen hide 3 eclipse Pintails were new for the `autumn` amongst the myriad of wildfowl. Sedge, Reed and Cetti`s Warblers, Whitethroat, Chiffchaff and Cuckoo all still in song, plus Hobby and Marsh Harrier over.
