Wind`s back

Lade - cool, cloudy, sw 5 - Hopes of a decent moth catch were dashed as the wind picked up during the early hours resulting in just nine species with Riband Wave NFY. On south lake the cool conditions attract 50 or so Swifts and House Martins.
Dengemarsh - Following reports of a shrike on the return trail yesterday all bushes were duly checked for perched passerines, but the wind was so strong that little was noted apart from the occasional bold Linnet, Sedge Warbler or Whitethroat. More Swifts were over the wetlands plus Hobby, Cuckoo and several Marsh Harriers. Was good to see that several pairs of Common Terns had settled on the raft in front of the hide, despite the sitting Oystercatcher. On the hayfields the usual suspects, including feral geese, swans, Little Egrets, Lapwings and Shelducks.
