Wet, wet, wet

Lade - 0900hrs - rain, low cloud, cold,  nw3 - Not quite sure why I bothered, but Barney was up for it so off we went across the shingle against a bone-chilling north westerly and lashing rain. Yesterdays Brents had predictably gone and most of the wildfowl were huddled around the willow islands. What on earth a Chiffchaff was doing atop a willow on such a day I`ll never know, while a Greater pecker was noteworthy. Amazing how quickly the water level has risen with most of the islands and broad margins now flooded.
ARC 1230hrs - That`s better, rains stopped and sun shining, still cold though, 4 C tops all day. A quick look from the causeway road revealed the ever diving Long-tailed Duck, 3 Smews and 2 Great White Egrets, while over the road the Blackwits and Black-necked Grebe were reported.
Littlestone Golf Course - 1530hrs - Had brief views of 2 Short-eared Owls hunting the St Mary`s Bay end of the golf course and the 3 Snow Buntings were seen along the seawall nearer to the Romney Bay Hotel.
