View from the Church Tower

Lydd - mild, cloudy, light airs - Spent the morning 132 feet atop All Saints Church for the spring  Heronwatch, which for obvious reasons we have missed for the past two years. This is a once a year opportunity to peer down into the heronry at active Grey Heron, Little Egret and Rook nests. A steady flow of guests who ascended the tower were treated to first class views of the birds as well as panoramic views across the Marsh. Thanks are in order to Pat and Les carter for organising the event.

New Romney - This afternoon a stroll down Church Lane to the dung heap yielded something of a surprise in the form of a smart male Ring Ouzel feeding on the margins of a bean field and a welcome addition to my `one-mile-from-home-list`, if only I was keeping such a tally...  Also noted on the building site drainage channel, several each of Pied and Yellow Wagtails, Linnets and Meadow Pipits coming down to drink.
