Hobbies and Swifts

Lade - 0700hrs - cool, cloudy, sw 4 - Another breezy morning, although nothing like the strength of the past two days. The low temperatures and rain clouds had forced down a number of Swifts and martins over south lake that gratefully plundered the myriads of emerging insects, along with three Hobbies. Two Stonechats on the shingle scrub and a pair of Shelducks amongst the willow swamp were both new.
ARC - 1200hrs - A scan from Hanson produced very little apart from a lone Turnstone on the Cormorant island and 50 Common Terns over the water. Looking across to Tower Pits and at least 10 Hobbies and 100 Swifts were hawking flying insects, while two Lesser Whitethroats were in song around the site.

  1. Still waiting for Swifts here on Sheppey and still low numbers of most migrants to be honest, especially Whitethroats.

  2. Hi Derek, a week ago Whitethroats were low in numbers here, but since have arrived in good numbers, just think they got held up en-route.
